Living on a Sailboat
There are quite a few people who have considered living on a sailboat and have adapted to it to form a lifestyle. There are some who have even lived on sailboats as small as 22 feet and still find it quite comfortable. The truth is living on a sailboat may require you to sacrifice many things as you might imagine. However, many who have chosen this way of life find it to be worth the sacrifice.
If you are staying within the United States, you may want to consider living in a marina because it offers the convenience of being hooked up to the shore for power. Living at the marina also offers other conveniences such as bathrooms, laundry shops, and parking. There are some marinas however that do not allow people who are living aboard their ship.
If you are planning on living on a sailboat, you will find that there are many ships for sale. However, this does not necessarily mean that living on a sailboat means it would be much cheaper than if you were sleeping on land. It all depends on how much conveniences are you willing to let go such as refrigeration, air-conditioning, entertainment systems, access to nearby stores, and many more. The truth is you will probably have to live without a few of these should you decide to live on your boat.
One of the things you may want to consider when living on a sailboat is if you want to stay just on one place or if you want to go sailing from place to place. There are many however who choose just to stay on one place because it offers them the convenience of having electricity. This of course does not come free as you are required to pay your utility bills every month. There are alternatives though, such as generators or solar panels which may cost just about the same as living in a marina.
If you are certain that you want to live on a sailboat, you need to make sure you are willing to let go of the many conveniences you get when living on land.
